AudioDev is announcing that the company has been approved by the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium, the organization behind the wireless power standard Qi) to develop a reference test tool for FOD (Foreign Object Detection). The FOD is a mandatory addition to the upcoming version of the Qi-specification, designed to handle the detection of foreign objects near the wireless transmitter and wireless receiver. The foreign objects could technically be anything, but objects that could increase in temperature due to the absorption of energy or interfere with the wireless power transfer are most important to be able to detect with very high precision.

AudioDev is currently working closely together with the FOD-group within the WPC and is now in the design phase of the new FOD Tool.

The FOD-tool will be integrated into the existing CATS Qi-tester, and it will be possible to upgrade already delivered CATS Qi-testers to support FOD-measurements. AudioDev is also developing a calibration tool, designed to be able to calibrate the FOD-tool through very precise power measurements. The calibration tool will be delivered with the FOD-tool, together with specific reference objects.
